Fischer Kitchen is a place devoted to making you think before you eat wherever you are in the world.

Hello! I’m Linda Marie Fischer and welcome to my world of food and travel. I go for gusto with simple foods that are easy to make, healthy, and tasty. Most importantly, when I’m cooking, you’ll always know exactly what’s in them.

I call this intentional eating, something I deeply believe there is great benefit to giving this idea strong consideration before you lift your fork. It’s what guides the Fischer Kitchen every day.

Intentional eating is a passion of mine that came later in life, even though I always thought that I was being careful. Post-menopause everything changed. Clean eating and nutrition significantly impacted my health. I leverage the good eating with a good dose of reps at the gym and the pool. I have found it a potent combination.

My diet and exercise combinations help me overcome the grocery store. They stop me in my tracks from buying a lot of the bad stuff right up front. I know if I eat the bad stuff it makes working out even harder than it already is. And I’m working hard enough at CrossFit a few times a week, the oldest, slowest, and always in last place woman there at 62, and swimming at NYU where I feel the drag of my age gliding through weightless water. (Update 4/23/25: I’m switching up the exercise routine - more on this later!)

Tragically, bad stuff can be promoted as good stuff but the package often shows you that most of the time it is ultra-processed food. And while that is a subject of considerable debate, I come down on the safe or sorry view. I want to help people understand eating all the stuff with complicated chemical names on the back of the package may be a warning. And if you can’t avoid processed food, you may at least be able to mitigate its effects (don’t eat so much of it!)

The Fischer Kitchen is a sharing enterprise focused on what we are doing easily and quickly with real food to intentionally direct our eating.

Is your newsletter free or do I have to pay?

The newsletter is free. There should not be barriers to learning about food and health. Pledges and subscriptions are of course welcome.

I may, in the future, have digital products for sale, down the line to support the site, but whether you buy them or not is entirely up to you.

What do I get by subscribing?

  • News from our kitchen

  • Recipes modified to cut sugar

  • Travel food stories

  • Curated links

My kitchen is already a place where eating well with friends promotes longevity and happiness. How is reading your newsletter of value to me?

If you’ve already got one, you’ll still enjoy this newsletter as we are providing an unfiltered account of a fun kitchen. That alone might be worth it. Plus, we may have traveled somewhere you’ve not seen yet and will find something new or different of value.

The blog is free, including access to the publication archives.

Who is the Fischer in the Fischer Kitchen?

There are many Fischers in this world. I married into the last name, a wonderful family of my husband’s filled with sisters who know how to cook, especially all his favorites. I bring my own special brand of intentional eating to the mix. And I get my husband to help. He’s the original Fischer anyway.

Travel and More

Find me on Instagram at @lindafischertravels or on Spotify as Linda Marie Fischer. I haven’t recorded any food-related songs - though I have one in mind from the suburban kitchen I once had - but you will find some easy listening and electronic dance songs. You can bet they’ve been played during a few meals too!

What are your Guiding Principles?

1. Tell the Truth—Bluntly but Kindly
No sugarcoating—unless it’s real sugar, and you meant to use it.

2. Real Food Over Processed
We prefer food that comes from a farm or a kitchen—not a factory. Simple ingredients. Things your body recognizes.

3. A Treat is a Treat
Indulgence is allowed. But let’s treat it that way—something special, not something automatic.

4. Personal Stories
Expect real-life stories, memories, and experiences that connect food to living with intention.

5. Health Isn’t a Fad
I believe health should be grounded, not gimmicky. It’s about long-term care for your one and only body.

6. Read the Label
If you’re going to eat it, know what’s in it. We’ll highlight ingredient lists and nutrition facts—not to obsess, but to understand.

7. No Preaching—But No Pretending
We also won’t pretend that ultra-processed snacks are just harmless fun. We can do better—and feel better.

8. Homemade Wins (Most of the Time)
You don’t have to be a cook. You just need to care. I’ll share ideas that are quick, fresh, satisfying, and simple enough to actually make.

9. Joy Belongs at the Table
Food is about joy. Just real pleasure from real food, thoughtfully chosen and intentionally enjoyed.

10. I Respect You
You’re smart. You care. And you deserve writing that’s honest, useful, and maybe even a little rebellious. Thanks for being here.

If that feels like your kind of kitchen, pull up a chair.
